Help Wanted: Full Time, Seasonal Summer Camp Positions Available!

We are currently looking for Summer Camp Counselors, Lead Staff  and Site Directors.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Camp staff are responsible for supervising and interacting with children enrolled in camp,  and implementing programs and activities for their group of campers. Staff must participate as a team member with other staff members and assist the  director in achieving the overall success of the camp.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Camp Counselors must be at least 18 years of age.  Lead staff and Site Directors need to be at least 21.
  • Must have some experience working with children
  • Must be willing and able to attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Three professional/personal references

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must possess a positive and professional attitude
  • Must be willing and able to swim with the children
  • Must be willing and able to participant in active outdoor games/sports with the children, i.e. be able to run, jump, climb, and other similar activities
  • Must be willing and able to attend all staff meetings and trainings
  • Take initiative in all aspects to ensure that a quality program is provided
  • Must be able to work all or most weeks of summer camp
  • Respect and be sensitive to all the children’s needs
  • Maintain the highest level of safety
  • Attend field trips and follow field trip safety procedures

Lead Preschool Teacher/Assistant Director (part-time)

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Child Care Director, the Preschool Teacher/Assistant director is responsible for managing and supervising children enrolled in early childhood programs in accordance with DCFS and YMCA Child Care standards. The standards provide a base for development of an excellent child care program for children ages 3-5.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Preschool Teacher/Assistant Director must be at least 21 years of age with a minimum of a High School diploma, and 60 hours of credit from an accredited college or university with at least 21 semester hours in courses related directly to child development from birth to age 6, or CDA and at least 1560 hours working with children.  In addition, Preschool Teachers must have at least 2 years experience working with children ages 3-5 in a professional setting. Teachers must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within one month of employment. Teachers must also comply with all DCFS regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Support and implement the goals and policies of the Campanelli YMCA and its administration
  2. Maintain a positive and professional attitude toward parents, children, staff, and other YMCA employees.
  3. Conduct daily programming with children in accordance with all Campanelli YMCA policies and procedures.
  4. Conduct consistent, respectful, fair, and professional leadership to all staff.
  5. Maintain accurate records including but not limited to; attendance, month-end paperwork, and children’s portfolios.
  6. Attend monthly staff meetings and all assigned trainings.
  7. Attend off-site conferences and public relations events when necessary for the promotion and enrichment of the program.
  8. Obtain 15 hours of in-service training per calendar year in accordance with DCFS licensing standards.
  9. Weekly lesson plans, which address individual children’s needs and interests must be completed and turned in to the Director for approval every Friday for the following week. Lesson plans must be posted and implemented, and a copy of the lesson plan given to parents.
  10. Ensure classrooms are arranged into basic interest areas and that those areas are well defined and equipped with sufficient materials.
  11. Maintain an environment that is safe, clean, and orderly.
  12. Provide a balance of activities including; indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, individual/group, and child/teacher initiated.
  13. Implement the Campanelli YMCA Character Development Program in all aspects of daily programming.
  14. Ensure that parents are well informed through daily communication, attractive and updated bulletin boards, and daily sheets.
  15. Conduct parent conferences a minimum of two per year, as well as individual parent conferences when necessary.
